Personality Compatibility Test

Choose two personality types and see how well they match across love, friendship, and work.

The MBTI compatibility test compares two personality types and returns a romance, friendship, and work score with a clear explanation, so you can see how any pairing tends to fit.

How to read what comes back

The result has three layers. At the top sit three ratings, one each for romance, friendship and work, in the same five words the pair guides use. Under them come the strengths and the things to watch, and those are chosen by which letters the two codes share.

The second letter decides the most. Share it and a common way of taking in information appears as a strength; differ and it moves to the things to watch. A different third or fourth letter appears on both lists at once, because the gap that causes friction also covers for a blind spot. A different first letter only ever appears as a strength.

Expect the three ratings to disagree. Romance, friendship and work weigh the same letters differently, so pick the rating that fits the question you actually have instead of averaging the three into one impression.

One pairing, read through

Take an ISTJ and an ENFP. They differ on every letter, which on many compatibility sites would end the conversation. Here the tool returns Strong match for romance, Moderate match for friendship and Moderate match for work, and it lists all three things to watch: a different way of taking in information, friction in how decisions get talked through, and a mismatch in pace.

The last one is the easiest to picture. On a trip, the ISTJ has the train times saved a week ahead and the ENFP wants to decide on the platform. Neither is wrong, and the rating cannot tell you which of you gives way. What it can do is name the place where the two of you will probably need to agree something out loud.

Using it with someone else

The result works better as a prompt than as a verdict. Each of you picks one item from the things to watch and says when it last came up and how it went. Ten minutes of that usually tells you more than the three ratings together, because it starts from what actually happened between you rather than from four letters.

When the result does not match your experience

Start with the letters. If either of you only just tipped into a letter on one preference, taking the test again could hand you the other one and change the reading. Then remember what the tool leaves out: shared history, values, and how each of you behaves in a bad week. A pairing it calls moderate can be the easiest relationship you have. If you think the weighting itself is wrong, the page below sets out every number and how to argue with it.

Frequently asked questions about the compatibility test

How does the compatibility test work?

Pick two of the 16 personality types and the test compares them across the four MBTI dimensions, weighing shared preferences and the balance that differences bring. It returns separate scores for romance, friendship, and work, plus a short explanation. The whole process is instant, runs in your browser, and needs no signup or personal information.

Do both people need to know their type?

For the most accurate result, yes. If either person is unsure, they can take the free 60-question test first. Once you both have your four-letter types, enter them into the compatibility test to see how your pairing tends to fit across romance, friendship, and work contexts.

Is the compatibility result accurate?

It is a thoughtful guide rather than a precise measurement. The result reflects patterns linked to how the two types align, but real relationships depend on communication, values, and effort. Use the scores to understand strengths and differences, then talk them through. No score guarantees success or failure; it simply highlights where a pairing may flow or need care.

Can I test friendship and work compatibility?

Yes. Every comparison returns three separate views: romance, friendship, and work. The same two types can fit differently in each, since work rewards complementary skills, friendship rewards shared interests, and romance rewards emotional connection. Looking at all three gives a fuller, more honest picture than a single overall number ever could.

Is the compatibility test free?

Yes, completely free with no signup, email, or payment. You can compare as many type pairings as you like and revisit anytime. Like the rest of the site, it is supported by advertising rather than fees, so the compatibility test and every other tool stay open to everyone who wants to use them.

How many type combinations can I check?

You can check any combination of the 16 types, which covers 120 unique pairings plus same-type matches. Compare your type with all 15 others or explore matches for friends and family. There is no limit on how many combinations you test, and each one returns its own romance, friendship, and work breakdown.
